ASTANA, Kazakhstan (PA) - international observers strongly criticised the presidential elections of the Kazakhstan Monday that citing many cases of ballot-stuffing and lamenting a lack of transparency.

Condemnation of Sunday's election, which saw incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev, winning an overwhelming 95 percent of the votes, will leave the claims of the Kazakh authorities more democratization in tatters.

Victory overwhelming Nazarbayev was planned, but a figure incredibly high turnout of 90 percent surprised observers.

The Organization for security and cooperation in monitoring arm of the European election, said the Central Asian nation did not improve significantly on the previous election, were not "free and fair."

"This election has shown that the country still need to make improvements to the democratic commitments, particularly in the fields of freedom of meeting and media", said the chief observer mission of the OSCE Tonino Picula.

The 70 years Nazarbayev has led Kazakhstan virtually unchallenged since the 1980s, when it was still part of the Soviet Union.

The OSCE stated that the violations included apparently identical signatures on the lists of electors and many cases of ballot-stuffing. The counting also lacked transparency and correct procedures are often ignored, said the statement.

Many reports have surfaced on the efforts of the authorities to ensure participation as high as possible, apparent to strengthen the legitimacy of the mandate Nazarbaev.

"Many local communities involved in the electoral process to increase the participation rate", the OSCE said in its report.

Income levels of propaganda and the increase of State tirelessly provided Nazarbayev has really high degree of popularity over the years. Western nations have been balancing their apparent aversion to the slow pace of the country to democracy and their desire to benefit from its expansion of booming energy.
